Black Coffee Supercharged

There's nothing quite like having a delicious, steaming cup of coffee. Coffee is warming, stimulating, and has extraordinary health benefits, indeed a hug in a cup. However, some people don't like the taste of plain black coffee and prefer to change the flavor with cream or sugar. But the truth is, cream and sugar are not making your cup of coffee any healthier. 

Black coffee is fantastic, just as it is. You can still enjoy these spices in your black coffee while you intermittently fast and get a superfood quality without breaking your fastYou can add the following ingredients. You can add one or all of them together. It all depends on your preference!

Ceylon Cinnamon 

Besides being delicious, Ceylon Cinnamon has the unique ability to imitate insulin activity in the body - the ingredient in Ceylon Cinnamon is a water-soluble polyphenol compound called MHCP, methylhydroxychalcone polymer, which mimics insulin, activates its receptor, and works synergistically with insulin in cells. This means it lowers blood sugar. 

Do not use Cassia Cinnamon, which is more commonly found in Starbucks and supermarkets, given that it's much cheaper than Ceylon Cinnamon. Cassia Cinnamon may cause health problems because it contains high amounts of a compound called coumarin. Research has found that overeating coumarin may harm your liver and increase the risk of cancer.

Sea & Himalayan Salt

Smart coffee has salt since it replenishes the sodium lost from drinking coffee. The daily recommended intake is 1200 mg of sodium, and for those with more than 64 oz of coffee a day, you may be flushing out your recommended intake. Cayenne Pepper

To control cayenne's fiery flavor, drop in a tiny pinch of ground cayenne pepper to your grounds before brewing. Capsaicin is the main active in cayenne pepper. Ginger

Ginger is loaded with antioxidants and indeed promotes healthy aging. Add a pinch of ground ginger to your coffee grounds and enjoy the warming effect of increased blow flow. 

Turmeric

Curcumin is the main active in Turmeric with amazing anti-inflammatory effects and is a powerful antioxidant. Turmeric is a spice that promotes an incredible array of health benefits. Add a pinch of ground turmeric to your coffee grounds before brewing, and add black pepper (see below). 

Black pepper 

Black pepper is high in antioxidants, with its most potent compound called piperine. Black pepper also increases the absorption of other chemicals. For instance, the curcumin's bioavailability in Turmeric is up to 20 times higher with pepper added to the spice! There is also evidence that piperine fights harmful bacteria in the small intestine while increasing the good bacteria in your gut.

Vanilla

Pure vanilla, aside from tasting and smelling divine, promotes health benefits ranging from improving anxiety and depression, lowering cholesterol, and even reducing fevers.

Our recommendation is to add each of the above ingredients one at a time so you can see what the flavor is like. Once you are satisfied, you can add another until you have your recipe or mix them all in!
